The role
Act as an experienced practitioner for hydraulic matters within the Corporation by providing technical support to the Hydraulic engineering discipline, delivering high-level technical investigation, design, review, systems development, audit, and advisory services related to all aspects of water and wastewater standards and infrastructure. You will provide technical leadership across the organisation, ensuring robust hydraulic outcomes and the incorporation of Safety in Design across engineering activities.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a senior technical advisor for hydraulic matters, delivering high-level investigations, design, reviews, systems development, audits, and advisory services related to water and wastewater standards and infrastructure.
- Provide cross-portfolio support in hydraulic engineering discipline matters across the Corporation.
- Lead technical support on Safety in Design matters for the hydraulic discipline, ensuring integration in all engineering activities.
- Collaborate with the Principal Engineer, Hydraulic to support the technical development of Engineering’s Hydraulic team.
- Ensure the organisation’s Safety in Design process is embedded in engineering activities, project delivery, and lifecycle management.
- Develop and review designs, standards, specifications, and technical guidance for water and wastewater networks and related infrastructure.
- Oversee complex hydraulic investigations, risk assessments, and compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
- Mentor and coach engineers and technical staff, promoting best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Engage with stakeholders across the business to translate requirements into robust hydraulic solutions and deliver value to customers.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualification in Civil, Mechanical, or Hydraulic Engineering, or an equivalent field; eligibility for professional registration/charter as applicable.
- A senior level of experience in hydraulic engineering within water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic design, modelling, systems development, and audit practices; experience with Safety in Design methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, think strategically, and influence across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills; proven ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefings, and design documentation.
- Experience collaborating with a Principal Engineer or senior leadership to develop technical capability within a hydraulic team.
- Proficiency with relevant standards, guideline documents, and regulatory requirements in water and wastewater utilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and competing deadlines with a proactive, collaborative approach.
